Top Tips to check your heating

It sounds daft, but there are many times when we are called to a fault of ‘no heating’ or ‘no hot water’ and it is something simple that you, the customer, could have rectified yourself.

  • If you have a combi boiler or a system with a pressure gauge, check the pressure, and make sure it is above 1 Bar.
  • If there is no heating or hot water and your boiler has a pilot light, check if the pilot is lit, and re-light, if possible.
  • Many modern boilers have a small re-set button on the casing, (it's normally red in colour). Press it, and if it physically clicks then you have re-set it and you can turn on the boiler. Some boilers require the boiler thermostat to be turned off and then back on again to re-set.  Be wary that there may be a further fault causing the lock-out, but on many occasions the boiler will work normally.
  • If you have a room thermostat, check that it is turned on and calling for heat.
  • Finally, check your main fused switch is on and not turned off by mistake, (yes, this does happen).

If all of the above fails to rectify your breakdown, you need to call the Experts.
